General Biochemistry screening

Biochemistry involves the analysis of cells, blood and other body fluids for their chemical, biochemical and hormonal components. Biochemical tests are most often test samples of serum, plasma and urine. The levels of specific chemicals are measured, and the results are compared with those that represent a healthy individual.

An increase or decrease in any component can help to identify a disease. Measurement of blood glucose and lipids (fats) are among the commonly performed tests in the biochemistry laboratory. Additional panels of tests can be used to assess the function of major organs such as the liver, kidneys and heart.

Biochemistry testing is essential for preventing, diagnosing and treating various illnesses and diseases.

What to expect at a testing centre

Regardless of the nature of the visit, our professional staff will ensure that your experience is convenient and as quick as possible. Our qualified staff and diagnostic technicians will always be available to assist you if you have any questions.

Steps involved in Biochemistry testing

We have streamlined our testing process to offer a comfortable and convenient experience for everyone.

  1. Patient data is captured onto our secure electronic register: Once we have your details on our system, the visit will be even quicker. You will need to provide us with your national identification number. By providing these details, we can easily access all the information required for future visits. This data, the tests requested, and any consent will be processed and confirmed.
  2. Specimen collection: the nursing sister will collect the specimen and label it with your initials, surname and ID number. The specimen is then packaged and prepared for a courier to an Indalo Bio laboratory for testing.
  3. After testing, we deliver the laboratory results to your referring doctor. They, in turn, will communicate the results directly with you.
  4. Accounts payment: we will send the account to you, as well to your medical aid if you’re a member of one.
