Bits of viral RNA are amplified by molecular tests to enable the detection of viral infection by specialized testing. A sample is first taken from a person’s nose, mouth (saliva), or any other region of the body where the virus might be present. Molecular testing for viruses and other pathogens, indicate that you are infections and may determine the stage (viral load) of infection.
The amount of virus in a person’s blood is referred to as viral load. The number of viral particles per milliliter of blood is used to represent this. Higher viral loads can have various effects depending on the virus, but they often indicate that the illness is advancing.
