Respiratory PCR testing

Respiratory PCR Screenings are used to diagnose viral respiratory illness, including influenza (flu), RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus), and COVID-19.

In Africa, and South Africa in particular, the arrival of the winter months often sees a spike in respiratory disease among the population. Resporat illnesses are most prevalent in young children and the elderly.

Early detection is vital to support timely clinical management and minimise progression to more serious illness. To keep yourself healthy and prevent the spread of disease, it is advisable that you get tested for respiratory diseases. Please note, you need a doctor’s referral letter to get tested.

What Samples are required for a PCR test?

Samples will include one of the following:

  • Nose/throat swab
  • Sputum (mucus and saliva coughed up from the respiratory tract)
